As of 26. March 2008, new procedures apply for foreign heavy transport vehicles crossing Syrian borders
16/04/2008 :: Syrian authorities have introduced measures to limit the exploitation of subsidised Syrian fuel by foreign transport vehicles, as this fuel is substantially cheaper than in neighbouring countries.
This specualation in fuel has cost the Syrian government considerable amounts. A system that was initiated at the Syrian-Jordanian border, and later adopted at the border with Turkey, entails a sealing of heavy vehicle fuel tanks when entering Syria. This allows for quickly travelling across Syria, without other implications when exiting than a control of the seal.
It is so far unclear what kind of system has been adopted at the Syrian-Lebanese border.
